Continental Tire has partnered with ‘Kick in for Houston,’ a celebrity soccer match to benefit Hurricane Harvey victims. The match will take place this Saturday, December 16, at BBVA Compass Stadium in Houston, Texas with some of the biggest soccer and sporting personalities in the United States competing in the charity event.
The match will be hosted by Houston Dynamo Legend, and FOX Sports analyst, Stuart Holden, and Dynamo Charities, the charitable arm of Holden’s hometown club.
Continental Tire will present “Charity Kicks” at halftime and post-game where athletes will take a shot from 12 yards into a specialty goal that has four exposed corners. Each corner will represent a different dollar amount that Continental Tire will match - up to $30,000 - with a donation to Dynamo Charities and Kick In For Houston. Ten athletes will take penalties at halftime and another 12 will take penalties after the final whistle.
“When we saw Stuart’s first Tweet, we knew we wanted to be involved,“ said Brian Beierwaltes, Sr. Manager Marketing for Continental Tire. “We are proud to be part of the soccer community and to be partnering with Stuart, Dynamo Charities and all the players, to give back to the people of Houston.“
All proceeds from the event will go directly to the Dynamo Charities and benefit the Hurricane Harvey Relief Fund.
“After the devastation of Hurricane Harvey, I was inspired by how the Houston community came together to support each other,” said Holden. “It’s a community that welcomed me when my family immigrated from Scotland when I was 10 and gave me my first real chance at professional soccer with the Houston Dynamo. While I am thankful that my family’s homes were spared, I wanted to find a way to help the thousands who were not as fortunate.”
Players include Houston Dynamo all-time leading scorer Brian Ching, U.S. Men’s National Team legends Landon Donovan, Alexi Lalas and Taylor Twellman, Houston native and seven-time Cy Young Award winner Roger Clemens, YouTube sensation Jake Paul and two-time NBA Most Valuable Player Steve Nash.
FOX Sports’ Kick In For Houston presentation features linear and digital coverage across FS1, FOX Deportes and FOX Sports GO at 5:30 p.m. CST (6:30 p.m. EST) on Sunday, Dec. 17. For the first time ever, FOX Sports offers match coverage across multiple social media platforms including Facebook, YouTube and Twitter.
