- New England Revolution striker Juan Agudelo beats AJ DeLaGarza to win Audi R8.
Toronto – December 10, 2016. The third season of “What’Cha Got,” presented by Continental Tire, came down to two of Major League Soccer’s (MLS) best on the pitch. New England Revolution standout, Juan Agudelo, squared off against LA Galaxy favorite, AJ DeLaGarza, and the striker turned out to be just a bit quicker off the pitch than the defender. After 14 competitors, one visit from Mom and Grandma to the set, one off-track incident, and a lifetime goal met, host, Townsend Bell, announced Agudelo the winner.
“From the moment I met Juan, I sensed an incredible motivation to win ‘What’Cha Got’ Season 3,” said host, Townsend Bell. “He has a natural passion for speed that he was able to harness and deliver a stunningly quick lap time. Not to mention the biggest jump we saw all season!”
“I watched all the YouTube videos and I really wanted to give it a go,” said Agudelo following his win. “I like racing and I actually have a simulator with a steering wheel in my living room that I play video games with. I thought maybe this video game simulator may actually help me win a car and save money, and it worked out.”
“It was another great season of ‘What’Cha Got’ with an impressive group of MLS players all contending for the Audi R8,” said Travis Roffler, director of marketing for Continental Tire. “Congratulations to Juan on his win. Fourteen MLS notables swapped their daily driver for a turn behind the wheel of an Audi R8. Each participant put their best foot forward to make it through a closed-circuit autocross course. Seven participants from the east, and seven from the west, squared off for the chance to win a year-long lease of a 2017 Audi R8 fitted in Continental’s ultra-high performance tire, the ContiSportContactTM 5P. In the end, it was Agudelo’s goal-setting that beat out DeLaGarza, for the win.
In 2010, Agudelo was looking for a background photo for his Facebook page when he came across a picture of an Audi R8 and immediately fell in love with the car. It would be that picture that sparked Agudelo’s determination to win the “What’Cha Got” competition.
“There’s a book called the Secret and it says if you put your positive energy on something you want, and you look at it and visualize it, you have a better chance of achieving that goal.” Agudelo continued, “So I posted that on Facebook and said, ‘My goal and sign of life success once I buy this Audi R8.’” So when did Agudelo know his goal-setting had worked? “I had a really strong feeling it was my chance when I was called by Continental Tire and was told what kind of car we were going to compete for.”
Agudelo followed up with some sound advice for both soccer, and non-soccer players everywhere stating, “I want to encourage people to seriously set their goals and look to achieve them. It was a huge life lesson for me to view the power of visualization. I am now going to look to set more goals moving forward because I’ve obviously proven it really works.”
As for plans with his new ride, Agudelo wants it to be a part of his big day. He’s working on arrangements for the car to be delivered to Houston, Texas in time for his January wedding. “Having the Audi R8 there when my entire family is there for the week, and then to get married, and then hopefully fitting my fiancé’s dress in the passenger seat to drive away, would be pretty special,” stated Agudelo.
