Nothing Says Road Trip Like Good Eats!

Nothing Says Road Trip Like Good Eats!

12Aug 2015

Aside from good friends and good music, nothing says a road trip like good eats! Whether you’re snacking or stopping for a bite, food is to a road trip what peanut butter is to jelly. You could have one without the other, but why?

First, let’s tackle the road trip snack. It’s an integral part of the trip. There are two options, either you pack a cooler or you stop at a convenience store along the way. Who hasn’t eaten an entire meal from a convenience store at one time or another? When we talked to Ryan Eversley about the Hot Rod Power Tour, he identified the following five items as his most favorite snacks:

1. Doritos

2. A&W Root Beer

3. Mambos, Starburst, Skittles (any candy in that “food group”)

4. Beef Jerkey

5. Ice Cream

Now that we have snacks covered, let’s look at our version of “Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives”. You’re driving along the wide-open road and the only thing in site is a cactus and maybe a tumbleweed with a lizard lounging in its shade. Suddenly you see a small building in the distance advertising a blue plate special and maybe an ice cold Coca-Cola. While you are a little leery, you still stop and have one of the best meals of your life! Watch out Guy Fieri, you’ve now begun your very own “Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives” list.

As the official tire of IMSA, we do our share of road trips to tracks across the country. We just returned from Road America where we stopped in at the famous, Siebkens. Siebkens is a quaint little spot in Elkhart Lake, WI whith more race history than some race tracks. Every evening the restaurant/bar fills up with racers and fans and the story telling is endless. This inspired us to write a top-five list of some of our favorite spots to visit on the IMSA schedule.

1. Siebkens – Elkhart Lake, WI

2. Senecca Lodge – Wakins Glen, NY

3. Deck Down Under – Port Orange, FL

4. Monterey’s Fish House – Monterey, CA

5. Black Rabbit Bar & Grille – Lakeville, CT

As you roll out to your next road trip on those Continental tires, tell us what snacks you’re packing. And shoot us some photos of your favorite eats using, #ForWhatYouDo, on Twitter, Instagram or Facebook.
